College library occupies a prominent position and it is an important and integral part of the teaching, learning and research programme. It is not merely a depository of books, but an active workshop instrument in the production of or original thinking. The aim of college education and college libraries in inter-related. College library extends opportunities for self-education to the deserving and enthusiastic students without any distinction. College library stimulates the students to obtain, evaluate and recognize knowledge and to familiarize with the trends of knowledge for further education and learning new disciplines.
The Library at GCE, acts as a Learning Resources Centre (LRC) to support the educational and research programmes of the institute by providing intellectual access to information to the faculty and students for their teaching and research. It caters to the information needs of the Faculty, Research Scholars and Students towards accessing information.
Building/Structure:
The Library building has two floors. Ground floor has Circulation section, Periodical Section and the Stack area. In the First floor, there is Reference Section, Rare Book Section and Book Bank Section.
Collection:
Knowing the immense significance of library, our college has been continuously trying to update the library by introducing new books and magazines. The library has 42434 books including Reference collection, Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, bound volumes of educational journals, Dissertations, Handbooks and Surveys etc. In this session 1183 books has been added till December 2019. It subscribes to 71 journals including various regional and national newspapers.
Services:
The college library is functioning on open access system to students and staff. The Library offers wide range of information services like reference, bibliographic, current awareness, orientation and reprographic services etc. Book Bank facility is also provided to needy students. Organization of different competitions to motivate students to use library resources has become annual feature of the library.
Library Automation:
Library is fully automated with 7 computers and is linked through LAN. LIBSYS 7 (Web centric) software has been installed for library operations and services. In addition to computerized Issue/Return of books to students, Barcodes, Spine labels, Catalogue cards and Library Membership card (SMART CARDS) are generated through Libsys software. Library also provides OPAC AND INTERNET SERVICES to staff and students.
Consortia:
To approach e-books and e-journals library subscribes 'National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST) programme of INFLIBNET’ (An autonomous Inter-University Centre of the UGC of India under Ministry of HRD) for college faculty and M.Ed. students. Users can have access to more than 6,300+ electronic journal and 31,35,000+ e-books from anywhere using user-name and password.
Library RFID Solution:
Library has recently implemented RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) solution for the ease of library users in issue-return, faster and accurate transactions and enhanced security of the library holdings.
